The follow is an overview of a general overview of the rules. It is recommended you observe the IBJJF rules at http://www.ibjjf.org/rules.htm.

 

RULES RESTRICTION

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES FOR ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS

  • NO Striking of any kind
  • NO Slamming
  • NO Biting, Hair pulling or Eye-Gouging
  • NO fingers to the throat
  • NO Small Joint Manipulation (Fingers, Toes, etc)
  • NO Pressure points
  • NO Knees or Elbows in the face
  • NO Stalling or running from the fight
  • NO Swearing or obscene gestures

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES FOR ALL WHITE & BLUE BELTS (AGES 16 AND OVER)
Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

  • NO Knee Bars
  • NO Toe Hold ankle locks (Figure 4)
  • Only Straight Foot Locks are ALLOWED (can’t twist inward or wrap leg over)
  • NO Wrist Locks
  • NO Calf Locks
  • NO Biceps Locks
  • NO Scissors Takedown
  • NO Heel Hooks or Twisting Bent Knee Locks of any kind
  • NO Cervical Locks (i.e crucifix)
  • NO Pulling the head while in the Guard (Can Opener)

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES FOR ALL PURPLE BELTS
Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

  • NO Knee Bars
  • NO Toe Hold ankle locks (Figure 4)
  • Only Straight Foot Locks are ALLOWED (can’t twist inward or wrap leg over)
  • NO Calf Locks
  • NO Biceps Locks
  • NO Scissors Takedown
  • NO Heel Hooks or Twisting Bent Knee Locks of any kind
  • NO Cervical Locks (i.e crucifix)

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES FOR ALL BROWN & BLACK BELTS
Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

  • NO Scissors Takedown
  • NO Heel Hooks or Twisting Bent Knee Locks of any kind
  • NO Biceps Locks
  • NO Cervical Locks (i.e crucifix)

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES FOR NO GI / SUBMISSION GRAPPLING (NOVICE, BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE)
Illegal Techniques for ALL AGES & ALL DIVISIONS will apply plus the following:

  • NO Grabbing of clothing (including your own) will be permitted
  • NO Submissions below the waist EXCEPT FOR Straight Foot/Ankle Locks and Knee Bars (Adults)
  • NO Wrist Locks or submissions below the waist (Kids)
  • NO Wrist Locks

NO GI / SUBMISSION GRAPPLING RULES:

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belts MUST compete in intermediate or advanced
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Purple Belts MUST compete in the advanced division
  • Mouthpiece and groin protector are optional, but recommended
  • Shirts must be tight fitting (rashguards are recommended)

THE FOLLOWING WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION:

  • Picking up your opponent while on the ground and slamming them
  • Applying illegal techniques
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct against the other competitor, referee, coach, or public
  • Arguing with the referee (all disputes must be taken to the head table)
  • Leaving the mat to avoid submission

HYGIENE:

  • The kimono must be washed and dried with no unpleasant odors.
  • Toe and fingernails must be cut short and clean.
  • People with long hair must keep their hair from interfering with there opponent or with themselves during the match.
  • Athletes are not permitted to paint there hair with spray and may be disqualified by the referee by doing so.

RESTRICTIONS The following submissions and/or actions are restricted from any GRAPPLERS CIRCUIT tournament and will result in immediate DISQUALIFICATION of the competitor applying the illegal move and/or submission:

Athletes under 18 (Juveniles) are only allowed to compete in the open class

VICTORY BY

Submission

  • When an athlete taps twice with his/her hand on the opponent, ground, or his/herself in a clear and apparent manner.
  • When the athlete taps the ground twice with his/her foot, when arms are trapped by opponent.
  • When the athlete verbally withdraws, requesting the match be stopped.
  • When the athlete screams or emits noise expressing pain while trapped in a submission hold.

Stoppage

  • When one of the athletes alleges to be suffering from cramps, the opponent shall be declared winner of the match.
  • When the referee perceives that a hold in place may expose the athlete to serious physical injury.
  • When the doctor deems one of the athletes to be unable to continue a match due to injury rendered by the opponent using a legal hold.
  • When an athlete presents bleeding that cannot be contained after being treated by the doctor on 2 (two) occasions, to which each athlete has the right and should be provided upon the referee’s request.
  • When an athlete vomits or loses control of basic bodily functions, with involuntary urination or bowel incontinence.

Disqualification

  • When one or both athletes commit a foul addressed above.

Loss of Consciousness

  • The athlete shall be declared to have lost the match upon losing consciousness due to a legal hold applied by the opponent or due to an accident not stemming from an illegal maneuver by the opponent.

Decision

  • The athlete with the most points shall be declared winner when the match has reached regulation time or in the event of the match being stopped due to both athletes suffering injuries.

SCORING

4 points are awarded for:

  • Mount
  • Back mount
  • Back control
3 points are awarded for:
  • Guard pass
2 points are awarded for:
  • Takedown
  • Sweep
  • Knee on Belly

Advantages

When there is a draw in the number of points,the athlete with the most advantage points shall be declared the winner.

Penalties

When there is a draw in the number of points and advantage points, the athlete with the least penalty points counted against him/her shall be declared the winner

TIME LIMITS

Adult Men and Women:

  • White Belts – 5 minutes
  • Blue Belts – 6 minutes
  • Purple Belts – 7 minutes
  • Brown Belts – 8 minutes
  • Black Belts – 10 minutes

Kids:

  • All matches – 4 minutes

GENERAL RULES

  1. Our tournaments will follow this Double Elimination format for divisions with four (4) or more competitors.. (Note: All divisions except for three (3) person divisions guarantee each competitor at least 2 matches.) If/when you lose a match you will be inserted into the Consolation Bracket to compete for 3rd place. The competitors that continue in the Winners Bracket who make it to the Championship Round will be competing for 1st and 2nd place.Two (2) person divisions will compete best 2 out of 3. Three (3) person divisions will run as follows: The ‘Bye’ competitor will face the loser of Match 1. The winner of Match 2 faces the winner of Match 1 to decide 1st Place.If there are no other competitors registered in your division you may be placed in another division in order for you to participate. Team Points will not be awarded for divisions with 1 competitor.We reserve the right to either subdivide or combine divisions, weight classes, or age classes the day of the event depending on the turnout.
  2. Each Competitor will be allowed to register in ONE DIVISION ONLY.
  3. All competitors must weigh-in with the GI ON.
  4. Each competitor must submit an on-line registration form, sign the electronic waiver, and pay the entry fee.
  5. No advantages will be given. If the match is tied at the end of regulation the referee will decide the winner based on who showed the most aggressiveness during the match.
  6. All competitors must wear a Gi with a standard collar size and thickness.
  7. All competitors must wear a CLEAN and a SOLID colored Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu GI (Kimono), either ALL WHITE, ALL BLUE, or ALL BLACK in color. WOMEN may also wear ALL PINK. No mixing of colors. Example; white pants and blue top or blue pants and white top, etc will NOT be allowed. Competitors will compete with regulation GIs only. A regulation GI is four fingers cuff clearance and sleeves are to be no shorter than 4 from wrist between wrist and sleeve of GI.
  8. All male competitors are not allowed to wear clothing underneath the GI such as T-Shirts, Rash Guard, Sweatpants, etc. Also, wrestling shoes are NOT allowed.
  9. We will do our best to pair up Kids according to weight and age no more than 2 years apart. For example ages groups may be (6 & 7) (8 & 9) (10 & 11) (12 & 13) (14 & 15). We will do our best to not mix girl and boy competitors, but it may be necessary. Kids need to be registered according to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Belt rankings (White, Yellow, Orange, Green). Karate or Tae Kwon Do belt rankings may be the same color, but are not equivalent to the skill level as jiu-jitsu. Consult your Jiu-Jitsu instructor before registering your child to avoid your child being entered into the wrong division.
  10. We reserve the right to refuse service.
  11. We reserve the right to close the tournament registration at any time in order to benefit our event organization.
