Revolution Langley035 SM Big Panthers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Judo (ages 8 15)

A Champions Philosophy

Judo, or the gentle way, was developed by professor Jigoro Kano over 100 years ago to promote health and strength among youngsters. He selected the safest techniques from Jujitsu and modified them to create, Judo, an Olympic sport that fosters the confidence, respect and positive attitude that is needed to excel in life.

Judo and Jujitsu are considered ‘soft martial arts’ because Jigoro Kano emphasized two basic principles:

1. “Maximum efficiency with minimum effort”
2. “Mutual welfare and benefit for all”

Keeping with Jigoro Kano’s vision, our friendly classes reflect these values by giving youngsters the opportunity to develop respect and discipline while having fun! As your child develops techniques that will ultimately allow them to defend themselves, their focus will primarily be on developing two very important characteristics: reason and cooperation.

What to Expect

In Judo, your child will perform age appropriate exercises and drills designed to teach the following:

  • How to fall safely
  • How to escape from grabs
  • How to use momentum to escape an attack
  • How to do throws
  • Body mechanics to better apply a technique or to throw an opponent
  • How to control an opponent on the ground
  • How to compete in a Judo match
  • How to have fun in a Judo class!

In Ju-jitsu, your child will learn:

  • All the above, plus…
  • Defenses from attacks
  • Striking techniques
  • Locking techniques

Overall, your child will learn to become more comfortable in their body and develop respect for their surroundings, while gaining greater flexibility, physical endurance, self-confidence, concentration and discipline!
